Minnesota State University Moorhead “Dragon Week of Thanks”

Moorhead, MN—The Minnesota State University Moorhead Alumni Foundation will be hosting their first “Dragon Week of Thanks” on April 28th through May 2nd. Throughout the week there will be visual opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to see how donations have impacted students and their education at MSU Moorhead.

Across campus, there will be information posted in departments, on buildings, and in common areas to emphasize how donations enhance the student experience. More than 500 current students who received donor-funded scholarships have also been given backpack tags to recognize the individual impact of gifts on their education.

Donations to the Alumni Foundation support students by funding scholarships, awards, academic competitions, travel to conferences, and student research.  Donations also assist faculty by funding research and professional development.

Students are encourage to express their gratitude to donors by writing a personal message to donors using postcards, which will then be sent to alumni, faculty, staff, businesses, parents, and friends who have made gifts recently. On Wednesday, individuals can also record a video message to donors. The Alumni Foundation will be setup on the campus mall from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm to record messages and have students sign a large thank-you banner.

The MSUM Alumni Foundation secures, receives, manages, administers, and disburses funds for MSUM. It is a non-profit organization that creates fundraising campaigns and hosts several events on and off campus, throughout each year.

‘Photos by Regene Radniecki’ exhibit opens today

Posted on Updated on

Regene RadnieckiThe MSUM College of Communications and Journalism welcomes the community to help honor MSUM professor Regene “Reggie” Radniecki at the opening of her photographic exhibit, “Photos by Regene Radniecki.” A reception will be held today from 4-6:30 p.m., Flora Frick Hall, Room 254. The exhibit closes May 20.

Radniecki is retiring after a long and colorful career in photojournalism. Her work has been published in many renowned publications, including: The New York Times, National Geographic’s World Magazine, LIFE, Ebony, Business Week, Time Magazine, Forbes, Christian Science Monitor, The Los Angeles Times, MPLS/St. Paul Magazine, Press Time and many others.

From Queen Elizabeth II and Pope John Paul II, to athletes, war veterans, singers, and everyday Americans, Radniecki has captured it all. Her sense of timing is impeccable – the subjects, scenes, and scenarios depicted in her photographs are unlike any other in composition and style.

The professor of mass communications has also played an instrumental role in the development of Horizonlines.org, a general-interest online magazine produced by students in the multimedia journalism program.

“Reggie joined us in 2000, and not only did she help usher in the new millennium, but helped us introduce a new era of digital publishing,” said C.T. Hanson, chair of the MSUM Mass Communications Department. “Through her work with horizonlines.org, Reggie and her students have helped establish our department and university as one of the premier programs in online publishing.”

Posted on Updated on

Portfolio Review 2014The American Advertising Federation of North Dakota is pleased to be hosting yet another Portfolio Review this year on Wednesday, April 2, on the Minnesota State University Moorhead campus. We have many slots open and we’d love to see you there!

If you don’t know much about the event, it’s a day where industry professionals meet with students to review their portfolios. This is a FREE event we host each year, solely for the purpose of providing students real-time advice on their portfolios.

Categories for review include the following:

CATEGORIES:

  • Graphic Design (print and/or interactive)
  • Photography
  • Ad Copywriting
  • Ad Design
  • Print Journalism
  • Photo Journalism
  • Broadcast Journalism

Review sessions are 20-30 minutes long, and each student can register for up to 3 review sessions (journalism categories can only register for 1 session). We typically have 40-50 industry reviewers from a variety of backgrounds: ad agencies, in-house marketing departments, print and web production, freelancers, etc. At the very least, it’s an excellent networking opportunity!

To register, go to www.aaf-nd.org.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Hope to see you there!
